Canceling SaneBox is done from your account settings, and SaneBox says it makes the process simple. Before you start, decide two things: whether you want to keep or remove the SaneBox folders, and whether you plan to ask for a refund. Those are separate actions. Canceling does not automatically refund the unused part of your subscription.
If you are canceling because something is not working, SaneBox suggests contacting support first. It may be able to help with filtering problems, account setup or billing issues. If you simply want a different tool, see the SaneBox alternatives guide.
How to Cancel a SaneBox Account
SaneBox's help center lists these steps:
- Log in to your SaneBox account.
- Go to the Settings page for the email account you want to cancel.
- Find Account Changes and click View. This is where the cancel option appears.
- Choose to cancel your account and follow the prompts.
- Review the options. SaneBox may suggest troubleshooting steps based on your reason for canceling. You can try one or continue.
- Choose what happens to your SaneBox folders, then confirm.
- Wait for the confirmation email that says your cancellation is complete.
If you have more than one email account on SaneBox, cancel each account you want to remove from its own Settings page.
What Happens to Your SaneBox Folders
During cancellation SaneBox asks what to do with folders such as SaneLater, SaneNews and SaneBlackHole.
Keep My Folders
The folders and the emails currently inside them stay in your email account. This is the safest choice if you are not sure what is in SaneLater.
Remove My Folders
SaneBox returns the emails from those folders to your inbox and removes the folders. Depending on your email provider, the removed folders may appear in Trash or Deleted Items for a while. That is expected and does not mean your emails were deleted.
Before choosing removal, open SaneLater and the digest to see what is inside. Returning a large folder to your inbox can flood it. If your folders hold years of mail, consider keeping them and cleaning up with your email provider's search tools afterward. The inbox cleanup guide explains how.
How to Turn Off Auto-Renewal
SaneBox's support pages include instructions for turning off auto-renewal. If you want to use SaneBox through the end of a paid period without renewing, review your account settings or contact support to confirm how that works for your plan.
Does Canceling Give Me a Refund?
No. Canceling and requesting a refund are separate actions. SaneBox states that if you cancel partway through a paid period, the unused portion is not automatically refunded.
The 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
SaneBox offers a 30-day money-back guarantee for eligible purchases. To use it:
- Do this within 30 days of the purchase.
- Contact SaneBox Support and request a refund.
- Wait for the team to review the request.
If you have already canceled and still need help with folders or a refund, you can contact SaneBox afterward.
Cancel During the Free Trial
SaneBox advertises a 7-day trial of premium features and says canceling is one click away and that it will put everything back the way it found it. If you are in a trial, cancel from the same settings page. Read the free trial guide for how to test the service before deciding.
What About Your Data?
SaneBox states that headers and related information it handled are securely deleted after you cancel. For more on how SaneBox treats data, see Is SaneBox Safe. You can also remove SaneBox from the connected apps in your Google, Microsoft or other account settings to be sure access is revoked.
Common Problems After Canceling
Folders Appear in Trash
If you chose to remove folders, your provider may show them in Trash or Deleted Items. The emails were returned to your inbox.
Mail Is No Longer Sorted
That is expected. Without SaneBox, new mail goes to your inbox. Set up native filters or labels to keep sorting, using the email filters guide.
You Want to Come Back
You can sign up again later. Review SaneBox pricing to see the current plans before you do.
